Here we go!

Well here we go!

I thought that online learning was a different type of teaching. On Moodle it seemed fine. However, as I transitioned to Brightspace and am using it to teach two courses this summer, I'm finding teaching so much more engaging and creative. I'm challenged to make the learning space inviting. I'm learning so many more features. And I think my students are getting a better learning experience.

Who knew some simple graphics would make the course more interesting to my users. I've learned to require video discussions. I thought that would be a huge learning curve for my adult students. It wasn't (for most).

I also like the assignment submission feature. I had been having students put assignments on Box but Brightspace has organized assignments so thoughtfully and it's easy to connect rubrics there as well.

I felt the grading system was easy to learn - even though I admit I had some problems figuring it out.

My best advice, create the syllabus. Then work on the grading system and get that set. Then add assignments linking them to grades. Finally I made weekly task sheets.

There's so much to learn and do in Brightspace. But you can do it!

  1. You seem farther ahead on Brightspace than I am right now. I'm really hoping it will be a more versatile platform than Moodle and give me more options for how I do online assignments and grading.
